Experienced Consultancy Services
I love working with farms and rural businesses to help them succeed. With over 25 years of experience across a range of sectors—farms, estates, corporations, and government bodies—I bring a practical, common-sense approach rooted in my background as a dairy farmer. My expertise spans commercial, analytical, and nutritional knowledge gained from the feed and rural software industries, and over fourteen years of consulting. This combination of experience equips me to help you make better, more informed decisions.
My work often involves reviewing office systems and accounting records, creating plans, budgets, and cash flows, or is out on farm in wellies providing hands-on, practical insights. I've assisted clients with business evaluations, enterprise assessments, setting up contract farming agreements, and securing bank support. Some of my most fulfilling projects have included helping clients buy farms, develop new units, secure grants and provide expert witness support. I've also advised farmers and water authorities on water pollution, environmental matters, and infrastructure compliance, including NVZ & SSAFO regulations, and the Environmental Land Management and Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) schemes.
As the sustainability agenda has gained momentum, I've worked extensively with milk buyer codes of practice, carbon footprint assessments, verification, and interpretation. This is an area that shouldn’t cause concern—lowering emissions and carbon footprints often aligns with improved profitability. While it's a new way of measuring success, the underlying management principles remain the same once understood.
I’m also qualified to offer funded advice on Business Management through Defra's "Future Farm Resilience Fund" and am registered to provide farm business planning and joint venture guidance through Welsh Government schemes and Farming Connect.
On a personal note, I played competitive hockey for 30 years, and although I no longer play, I maintain that same drive in my work. These days, I enjoy walking my dog and the occasional relaxed ski trip, trading the fast-paced game for a more leisurely approach.
